Soovik, E. | Tomson, H. | Jogeva, V. (Estonian Research Inst. of Agriculture, Saku (Estonia))
There were 738 thousand ha of drainage including 643 thousand ha of tile drainage in Estonia on 01.01.1994. Thus drainage forming 66 per cent from the arable land is an inevitable factor by the discussion of any common agricultural problem in Estonia. Due to the economical difficulties no maintenance and repair works have been done on the most part of drainage systems during past 5 to 10 years. The rebogging process has uncheckedly been turning 2/3 of the arable lands into excessively wet areas for the high-productive field rotation in Estonia. Nominally drained but factually rebogging areas can be without expensive rehabilition used mainly under grassland or forest. It should be taken into account discussing the development in land use generally and especially in agriculture of Estonia
