The effect of additives on quality of silage under stressed fermentation conditions
2001
Laettemae, P. (Estonian Agricultural Univ., Tartu (Estonia))
The silage quality is greatly influenced by fermentation conditions and by the use of additives. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of additives under the stressed fermentation conditions. The direct-cut american lucerne was used as a silage crop. The additives AIV-2000 and Niben or biological inoculant Feedtech sup(TM) each were added at an application rate of 5 l/t fresh matter (FM). Prior ensiling 0.7g of challenge microflora per silo was added and mixed into the silage crop. Application of additives improved fermentation and the silage quality. There were no significant differences in silage quality between treatments
