As a consequence of the increased cultivation of winter barley in Italy the field reaction of several cultivars was recorded during the past six years. Resistance was conferred by the combinations of genes carried by some two-rowed varieties such as 'Hulda' and 'Mette'. Among the six-rowed varieties, 'Eldorado', carrying gene Mlal3, was resistant in the last two years
