Application of two methods of developing site index equations using remeasurement data

The guide curve method and the difference equation method were used to develop site index equations for Nauclea diderrichii plantations in south-western Nigeria. The data used were remeasurement data from permanent sample plots monitored from 8 to 62 years. When tested, the two methods produced site index values which differ significantly. Below the index age (40 years), the guide curve method produced higher site index values than the difference equation method. The reverse was the case above the index age. The need to use only one method consistently during the periodic assessment of permanent sample plots was emphasized
