CALM: an adventure in diffusion of technology

The birth and growth of Computer Aided Livestock Marketing (CALM), an electronic auction for livestock launched in 1987 by the Australian Meat and Livestock Board, throws light on the introduction and diffusion of an innovation in highly traditional agricultural social and industry systems in which oldestablished and competing alternative methods of trade and communication exist.
