The life history, population dynamics and polymorphism of Cernuella virgata (Mollusca: Helicidae) [snail pest of pasture and crops]
1988
Baker, G.H. (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization, Glen Osmond (Australia). Div. of Entomology)
Results are reported of a 3-year sampling study in permanent pasture and roadside vegetation. The snail has an annual cycle, breeding from autumn to spring, and being most abundant in pasture in spring, roadside vegetation in summer. Shell size and banding patterns vary geographically, but not with climate; size is inversely related to population density. Warm, moist condition advanced growth and morphological, but not reproductive, development.
