The immunogenicity of the ts-11 vaccine strain of Mycoplasma gallisepticum was assessed following eye drop or coarse aerosol administration in chickens of various ages. Protection was evaluated following intra-abdominal or fine droplet aerosol administration of virulent M. gallisepticum. The ts-11 strain failed to elicit a consistent immune response, which may possibly be associated with the dose administered. The immunity elicited by an apparently adequate vaccine dose broke down, whereas birds vaccinated with one-tenth that dose which elicited a clearly inferior serum antibody response, were able to resist an identical challenge.
