Serum antibody responses in 55 sheep were monitored over 2 years. Maximum levels were directly related to the severity of clinical lesions. Levels rose 2 weeks after lesions developed and declined within months of lesions being resolved. After the first transmission period, higher levels persisted longer in sheep that did not become affected in the next. Antibody response did not appear to result in resolution of lesions. A number of antigen preparations for ELISA tests were compared in the course of the experiment.
