Effect of Vitamin C administration on serum and egg-yolk cholesterol level of the chicken

Ascorbic acid was given in their feed to layer chickens, at 3 concentrations. Over 4 periods of 6 weeks, there was a marked decrease in blood serum cholesterol concentration, especially at the highest level. There was also a slight decrease in egg yolk cholesterol concentration in most birds. Thyroid weight increased, especially at the highest level.
