A study of monthly larval settlement and environmental factors over the geographical range of the fishery between 1984 and 1989 showed that the settlement along the coast of Western Australia followed a similar seasonal pattern at all sites and that there is a close correlation between adjacent sites. Cross correlation of Oscillation Index, sea level, sea surface temperature and salinity, with puerulus settlement at all sites indicates that similar processes are affecting larval recruitment along the whole coast.
