Yields and nitrogen uptake of grain sorghum in various rotations, including lucerne, annual legume and long fallow
1989

Lucerne leys showed the major effects: the first sorghum crop responded in terms of grain yield, N content, and N uptake. Responses in later years depended on conditions, particularly rainfall during flowering of sorghum. The effects of soil type (black earth and red clay), and lucerne management (establishment method, grazing period) were consistent with effects on lucerne yield. Annual legumes suffered from drought and insect damage and had little effect on following sorghum crops.
