Disturbance of a precursor to weed invasion in native vegetation [Australia; review]. [Conference paper]

Weed invasion is generally enhanced by disturbance, but all disturbances do not lead to invasions. Increased invasion is only likely if disturbance increases the availability of a limiting resource, and if propagules are available. Management of disturbance must be carried out in recognition of the requirements of the native vegetation and with adequate assessment of the relative importance of different disturbance types in promoting invasion. Human-induced disturbances generally need to be minimized.
