Lambs from divergent weaning weight selection lines born and reared by their own dams, carried and reared by unselected embryo recipient dams, or reared artificially were used to assess ewe and lamb effects on birth weights and pre-weaning growth rates. Birth weight and growth rate are mainly influenced by lamb effects, with a minor maternal contribution.
