A medium intensity (1:50 000) soil survey of 4260 ha adjacent to the Burnett River north of Eidsvold was undertaken to assess suitability for irrigation. Nine soil types including alluvial soils, prairie soils, black earths, grey clays and solidic soils were described and mapped. The survey identified 2990 ha of arable land and 820 ha of limited arable land. Salinity is not considered a significant hazard to irrigation development.
