Experimental infection of 6 sows with virus from a foetus showed that the virus can cause foetal death if the sow becomes infected when 85-88 days pregnant. There were gross pathological lesions in the foetal myocardium. The virus may have been the cause of foetal death in a sow infected at 39 days gestation, but the virus could not be demonstrated in the mummified foetuses.
