Exocrine glands in the forelegs of dung beetles in the genus Onitis F. (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae)
1986
Houston, W.W.K. (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization, Canberra (Australia). Div. of Entomology)
Two novel groups are described. One, on the protrochanters of males, is present in most O. species. The other, on the procoxae of both sexes, probably occurs throughout the scarabaeine dung beetles. The glands may be involved in close-range species recognition and sexual attraction.
