On a diet of high-protein pellets, wethers had higher feed intake, liveweight gain and wool growth rate than on a diet of wheaten chaff. On the pellet diet, the additives increased liveweight gain and wool growth, and reduced rumen volatile fatty acids and ammonia. On the chaff diet, the additives had no consistent effects.
