Three periods spanning the last century were identified in the development of new technology for the control of tick fever in Australia. In each period the transfer of the technology to industry was accompanied by a decline in research activity. In the third and current period this decline occurred in the past 10-15 years. Field experience should determine whether or not more research is required in the future. The 3 periods are described and key discoveries listed
