The morphological, physicochemical and serological properties of a newly-isolated virus show it to be a rhabdovirus which together with TIB forms a new serogroup for which the name 'Coastal Plains' is proposed. The distribution of antibodies to the virus in cattle, buffalo, dogs and a horse suggest Culicoides brevitarsis as a vector.
