Foetal and calf wastage in Bos indicus cross beef genotypes [reproductive performance; beef cattle breeds; Queensland]
1987
Holroyd, R.G. (Queensland Dept. of Primary Industries, Rockhampton (Australia))
The incidence and cirumstances of prenatal, perinatal and postnatal deaths for Brahman and Sahiwal crosses were monitored over 12 breeding seasons. Loss levels overall were an important factor in reproductive performance. In particular, high mortality in Sahiwal genotypes associated with congenital abnormalities, nervous cows, and bottle teats is sufficient to inhibit use in the dry tropics.
