The soils and agricultural potential of the Burdekin River Irrigation Area (BRIA) Queensland has been studied intensively since the first major study in 1953. With the advent of the new Australian classification system and the second edition of the Australian Soil and Land Survey Handbook, updating of soil profile descriptions to conform with current terminology has become necessary. This publication provides a key to the recognition of the soils found in the BRIA. In addition, a representative soil profile description for each soil type is given and a correlation made with other soil classification systems to enable communication of the information both nationally and internationally.
