The development of a gully within an ephemeral stream channel was monitored over a 10-year period using a direct contact measurement technique initially and then a photogrammetric technique. The latter was shown to have an accuracy of better than 0.05 cu. m. for each time of measurement. The volume of soil loss and gully headwall progression were very nearly linear with time, having values of 0.40 and 0.25 cu. m. per year respectively.
