Overview of the processes limiting crop production on duplex soils [review]
1992
Passioura, J.B. (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, Canberra (Australia). Div. of Plant Industry)
Duplex soils are beset with a number of serious physical and chemical problems. The most important principle in crop management seems to be to establish a large leaf area index as quickly as possible; the rationale for this strategy is discussed. In nutrient management, N is the key, and despite considerable work on its transformations, problems remain in best handling its application. K is an occasional problem, and there may be other undiscovered mineral imbalances at work. Areas for future research are discussed
