Experiments on the singleton fetuses of 13 crossbred Merino ewes suggest that the circulating, basal concentrations of both ACTH and cortisol increase during the last fifth of gestation. The exact nature of the prepartum feedback relationship that develops between these 2 hormones remains to be fully elucidated.
