Total body water and the estimation of fat in the koala (Phascolarctos cinereus). [Short contribution]
1992
Ellis, W.A.H. | Carrick, F.N. (Queensland Univ., St Lucia (Australia). Dept. of Zoology)
The previously described inverse relationship between body water and fat content of animals was evaluated using the tritium dilution method. The relationship between the body condition index and estimated fat indicates that assessing the body condition using the method of Carrick and Wood provides information on the nutritional status of a koala. The equations derived may only hold for koalas from Queensland, as this was the only source of koalas investigated.
