Economic viability of hand pollination of Kakrol [teasle gourd] to improve its production

A survey was conducted at Brahmanharia and Quasha upazillas of Brahmanbaria, Bangladesh in 1987 to know details of hand pollination in Kakrol, to assessing the economic viability of the technique of the hand pollination. Fifty Kakrol growers adopting hand pollination was selected for this survey. The findings revealed that the profitability of hand pollination in Kakrol in terms of yield, gross margin and benefit cost ratio was much higher even with low level of resource use and unbalanced application of chemical fertilizers. The per hectare gross margin tended to be Tk. 2,18,328.00 and the return earned per Tk. invested appeared to be Tk. 5.21.
