Biotechnology provides new opportunity to increase animal production/animal improvement. The notable biotechnologies used by animal producers/animal breeders nowadays are Artificial insemination, Multiple Ovulation and Embryo Transfer, Genetic Engineering, Single Cell Protein, Immunological techniques including vaccine production, Utilization of microbes in food industry and Bioelectronics. Artificial insemination, vaccine production and use of microbes in preparation of yoghurt and cheese are the evidence of biotechnology in Bangladesh, but their efficiency is very low. Attempts should be made to make the existing biotechnologies more efficient and to exploit the other available biotechnologies for increasing the animal production to meet the demand of growing human population.
