In order to characterize clinically and by real-time ultrasound the dilatation period of labor in the cow, fifteen pregnant females were studied. All multiparous animals had 270 days of gestation when they were hospitalized for clinic standard examination methods and which an ultrasound scanner (rectal transducer, 5 MHz). It was possible to observe that dilatation of the cervix is done by the intact fetal membranes and it is also demonstrated that the dilatation progress is in cefalo-caudal sense.
