Since 1984 at Animal Production Department, Agronomy Faculty, Universidad de Concepcion, studies are carried out on the forage production under hydroponic condition of different kinds of grains. The purpose of this experiment was to obtain basic information to produce forage under hydroponic situation based on germinated oat and triticale grains. In three studies, four times of hydration (0, 12, 24 and 48 hours) previous to the sowing, four seeding rates dosages of grain to seed and four dosages of fertilizer were performed. It was concluded and recommended an hydration at least during 12 hrs. A recommended sowing dosage is 2 to 3 kg/m2 for oat and 3 to 4 kg/m2 for triticale (air dry basis). The biomass production was not affected by the fertilization (P 0,05), but modified the chemical composition fundamentally on crude protein and cell-wall contents, while the nitrogen free extract was reduced. A decrease of the dry matter was observed at 20 days germination, for oat was less than 20% and for triticale was higher than 40%. It is recommended a precise harvest time to reduce these losses
