On a sample of 196 crossbreed draft horses a study was undertaken in order to describe their hippometric characteristics. In each horse the withers height, heart girth, metacarpus perimeter and the length from the point of shoulder to the point of the pelvis (the tuber isquiadicum), were measured and the anamorphosic and body indexes were calculated. The body weight and the work output capacity, calculated as a kilogrametric debit, were also estimated. The results have demonstrated that the Chilean crossbreed draft horses have means values of withers height, heart girth and metacarpus perimeter lower than those described for the light heavy draft horses' standards. According with the hippometrics values, 3.1%, 38.3% and 14.8% of the horse sample showed values for withers height, heart girth and metacarpus perimeters respectively, according with those described for the light heavy draft horses. Although according with the estimated weight and the anamorphosic index the 93.4% of horses were classified as draft type, only the 38.3% showed a kilogrametric debit equivalent to that described for light heavy draft horse. It is concluded that the Chilean crossbreed draft horse has a type which show morphologic characteristics similar to the saddle Chilean horse and other race breeds. One third of the analyzed populations showed some hippometrics values between the ranks established for the light heavy draft horse
