The model developed during this experience was based, on one hand, on general literature information, and on the other, on experimental data obtained by the authors. It was structured over the basis of a sub-model of soil-water balance, another one of grassland growth, and a third one that integrated ecophysiological and phenological aspects of annual grasslands of the Santiago basin. The input variables used were: temperature, precipitation, solar radiation, and potential evapotranspiration. The output variables obtained were: growth and senescence curves, and levels of the soil water reserve. The simulation results showed that the model attained positive levels of realism in relation to its capacity to predict standing phytomass accumulation and soil moisture for those areas where it was evaluated
