In order to evaluate and characterize the sport performance of Chilean horse race to complete the characterization of this race, genetic indexes of 25,418 registers corresponding to the three first places obtained by 5.550 products which participates in the "rodeos" from 1952 to 1990, were calculated. The individual performance of each product was scored considering the place obtained in the "rodeos" and the type of "rodeos" in which the animal participate. This information was used to calculate repeatability and heritability by applying Least Squares (LS). In addition it was used Restricted Maximum Likelihood (REML) method to obtain another estimation of heritability. The estimation of heritability by LS was 0.08 +- 0.05 and by REML method 0.19 +-0.4. Repeatability was 0.023 +- 0.0042. These values are low, and they have a good degree of precision for the size of the analyzed population. The low indices, especially the repeatability one, may be due to the presence of many non-genetic factors that influence the sport performance and which are not available in the competitions records
