The Japanese genetic resources program and its cooperation with Chile

There is a great world interest on genetic resources. Japan has accumulated a vast experience in this field and is willing to share it with other countries. A historical review of the Japanese efforts and results related to genetic resources collection, evaluation, conservation, documentation and exchange is given. A general view on the Japanese international cooperation in this areas is also presented. This is the background of the Genetic Resources Conservation Project that the Japanese International Cooperation Agency is developing with the Instituto de Investigaciones Agropecuarias in Chile
