Present studies reviews characteristics of sheep breeds in Egypt. Particular attention was paid to environmental factors related to sheep production and trends of sheep research. Present study includes three chapters: The first is general where it gave brief information about Egyptian environment such as geographic nature, land use, agricultural system, water resources, climate and human population. Chapter two represents the body of the study, that is Egyptian sheep breeds: Dictionary definitions, sheep nomination, reference to sheep in Quran, Poesy and Arabian proverbs, origin of domestic sheep. Chapter three explains the contraints of developing sheep industry in Egypt.
