Improvement of hexaploid triticale for grain yield and its components [Triticales; Triticum; Hordeum vulgare; Triticum aestivum]
1993
Sadiq, M. (Atomic Energy Agricultural Research Centre, Tandojam (Pakistan). Plant Genetics Division)
Segregating lines of triticale (x Triticosecale Wittm. ex A. Camus) produced by hybridization at the Atomic Energy Agricultural Research Centre, Tandojam, Pakistan, were screened in yield trials in the 1985-87 seasons. Advanced line NIAB-T-598 gave highest grain yield (4500 kg/ha) in the first year, significantly higher than the wheats (Triticum spp.) and barley (Hordeum vulgare L. ssp. vulgare) cultivars included in the trial. In the second season, this line again out-yielded the bread wheat controls and also gave the highest 1000-kernel weight. NIAB-T-598 also showed increased kernel hardness over earlier triticale lines, to an acceptable level
