Herbicide and Xanthium strumarium action on the growth of Pyrenophora teres in vitro
1995
Cetinsoy, S. (Plant Protection Research Inst., Ankara (Turkey))
A number of herbicides and water-extract of fruit of Xanthium strumarium L. were tested for their effects on mycelial growth and conidial development of Pyrenophora teres Drechs. (=Drechslera teres (Sacc.) Shoem.), the causal agent of net blotch in barley (Hordeum vulgare L. subsp. vulgare), in vitro. Only fenoxaprop-ethyl (at 0.39 p.p.m.) and the X. strumarium extract significantly reduced sporulation. No other significant effects were recorded for number of septa, or dimensions or production of conidia, although some treatments prevented production of septa on conidia and evoked plasma-membrane abnormalities
