[Cereals and sheep [Algeria]]
1980
Chaulet, C. (Institut des Sciences Sociales et Centre de Recherches en Economie Appliquee, Alger (Algeria))
Taking the case of Algeria, the paper shows that modern agricultural technologies are based on the separation of the established relationship between cereal production and sheep rearing. But those technologies, whether of the colonial or the "Green Revolution" type, do not permit higher yields yet exhaust the land. Stating that farmers spontaneously do try to reconstitute new forms of corn-sheep association, the paper calls for a systematic research on such practices in Mediterranean countries.
