[Foot corkiness of pepper [Capsicum annuum] caused by temporary water logging]

English. A disease of pepper plants characterized by exaggerated lenticels, corkiness and necrosis of stem base, collar and main roots, by decay of secondary roots and by wilt of the aerial parts has been repeatedly observed on pepper plants (Capsicum annuum) grown in greenhouse, in the horticultural area of Albenga (Savona). The disease, at first erroneously attributed to soil salinity, was shown to be caused by the submersion of the base of the plants during irrigation. The symptoms of the disease have been experimentally reproduced by irrigating with water at different temperatures plants transplanted in the bottom of the furrow. Marked differences in sensibility to this physiological disorder have been exhibited by two cultivars of ornamental Capsicum.

Italian. Un'alterazione del peperone consistente in iperlenticellosi, suberosi della base del fusto, del colletto e delle grosse radici, disfacimento delle ramificazioni radicali secondarie ed avvizzimento generale della parte aerea e stata piu volte riscontrata in colture di peperone (Capsicum annuum) in serra nella zona orticola di Albenga (Savona). Detta alterazione, in un primo tempo erroneamente attribuita ad eccesso di sali nel terreno, e risultata in realta dovuta all'annegamento della base delle piante che puo verificarsi in seguito all'irrigazione di colture male assolcate. Essa e stata sperimentalmente riprodotta irrigando, con acque a diversa temperatura, piante disposte nel fondo del solco. Differenze di sensibilita alla fisiopatia sono state evidenziate in due cultivars di Capsicum ornamentale.
