We formulate an argument (called the vegetarian argument) for the conclusion that it is wrong to kill animals for food. If this argument is acceptable, then so is a parallel argument that it is wrong to kill plants for food. The parallel argument is not acceptable and thus the vegetarian argument is not acceptable. Finally we challenge one of the basic premises of the vegetarian argument.
