The role of potassium in the vacuolization of plastids: An electron microanalysis study [microprobe analysis, ultrastructure, ion movement, Nicotiana rustica]
1981
Neumann, D. (Akademie der Wissenschaften der DDR, Halle/Saale. Inst. fuer Biochemie der Pflanzen) | Janossy, A.G.S.
Chloroplasts in leaf cuttings of Nicotiana rusticaL. show swelling of the thylakoid system and formation of plastid vacuoles in the light. These ultrastructural changes may be caused by uptake of K('+) and Cl('-) into the aqueous compartments between the thylakoid membranes. Ion changes and ultrastructural alterations are reversible in darkness.
