[Function of phenolic compounds in plants. 4: Endogenous phenol variations and bud dormancy in "Platanus orientalis"]

Estimation of seasonal variations in total endogenous phenol levels in Platanus orientalis buds is given. After a little decrease in December, phenolic concentration remains constant till the end of March; a week before the dormancy break total phenols show a little increase. The authors also develop a phenolic chromatographic separation on dextran gel; peaks 1-3-4-5-9 reveal the same variation trend of total phenols. At the beginning of March two fraction (n. 8 and 10) disappear, whereas two new fractions (a and b) are separated. Fraction n. 2 on the contrary, after a minimum at December, reveals a progressive increase till March and at last, before dormancy break, a new increase. U.V. spectrophotometric analyses suggest that fraction n. 2 could be Chlorogenic acid, n. 1 an Anthocyanidine. The other peaks have not been identified.
