[Entomofauna of cork trees (Quercus suber L.); 1. list [insects]]

In this first checklist of the cork oak insect fauna in Portugal, only the species which figure in the collection of the Entomology Department of the Estacao de Biologia Florestal, and have been named and had their identification confirmed, are mentioned. Twelve out of all 133 species presented are new to the Portuguese fauna, as far as could be ascertained. In the adjoining list the number of species in each zoological order and family are indicated. This list is far from complete, owing not only to the way the collections were made (mostly directed to the control of economically important pests), but also to the enormous insect fauna of the cork oak. In fact, because of the need to study the insects that defoliate the new spring growth, most of the collections were made at that time. That is why Lepidoptera are more numerous in this list of insects that live off the cork oak. It is only a first check-list and it is hoped that it will be the starting point for the study of the more destructive species of this tree and for a knowledge of its insect fauna

Nesta primeira lista das especies da entomofauna do sobreiro em Portugal so se citaram os insectos de que ha especimens no Departamento de Entomologia da Estacao de Biologia Florestal e cuja identificacao foi confirmada. Numa lista anexa indica-se o numero de especies de cada ordem e familia representada prefazendo um total de 133 especies. As especies que, tanto quanto podemos averiguar, sao novas para a Fauna Lusitanica, em numero de 12, estao assinaladas com um asterisco. Esta lista esta nuito incompleta pois a entomofauna do sobreiro e bastante rica, e ressente-se da forma como foram feitas as colheitas. A necessidade de estudar as especies que provocam a desfolha da rebentacao primaveril do sobreiro fez com que a maior parte das colheitas incidissem sobre esta epoca. Predominam, pois, nesta lista, entre os insectos intimamente ligados ao sobreiro, isto e, que dele dependem pelo abrigo e alimentacao, os lepidopteros, sendo tambem muito numerosos os seus parasitas e depredadores. Esta lista nao e mais do que uma primeira contribuicao para o conhecimento da entomofauna do sobreiro em Portugal e servir-nos-a como ponto de partida para o estudo monografico das especies prejudiciais a esta arvore e para aprofundar os conhecimentos sobre a sua entomofauna
