English. 18 single-spore isolates of Seiridium cardinale, obtained from different naturally infected hosts were evaluated for toxigenic ability in vitro. All the isolates produced culture filtrates which were phytotoxic to selected herbaceous species, even if marked differences were observed in symptom severity induced by the various isolates. The range of non-natural-host plants which are susceptible to culture filtrates of S. cardinale has been widened. The toxigenic capacity is maintained also after 5 yr storage of the fungus as frozen conidial suspension.
