Aspects of cassava cultivation, processing and trade are described in a collection of papers. J.S.O. van Asseldonk gives a general introduction to the paper and notes how Dutch feed makers have profited from relatively low tapioca prices in the European Economic Community. J. de Hoogh notes the different interests in the tapioca industry and discusses in particular the Dutch and Thai cases. L. Box discusses the importance of cassava as food for poor people in rural areas of the tropics and draws implications for research in national and international institutes. M. Flach reports on recent findings in cassava research and notes the gap between experimental yields and average world yields. J.H. Peltjes shows the advantages and disadvantages of tapioca from the feed industry's point of view. R.J. Tazelaar discusses European Economic Community decision making with regard to Thai tapioca exports, in particular to the Netherlands.
