The authors have examined the present diffusion of Quercus macrolepis Kotschy in Apulia by comparing the data of this study with those of previous works. In order to point out some parameters able to interpret the diffusion of the "Vallone" in a well defined district of the geographical subregion of Salento the geologic, climatologic and phytoecologic aspects were investigated. The results thus achieved were compared with those of some places in Greece where Quercus macrolepis Kotschy vegetates and is reproduced naturally in order to identify the possible climatic limits of tolerance of this species inside its area of diffusion.
