Necrotic stomatitis and nephrosis syndrome is a summer disease of cattle on the highland sand-veld of Zimbabwe. The aetiology is not completely understood. A study of the outbreaks that occurred in 1990 suggests an association between herd age group, vegetation type and the occurrence of cases. Herds of below two years of age appear to be at greater risk than herds of older age. Land with a predominance of tree vegetation poses a higher risk of cattle than more open, predominantly grass-covered lands
