Five strawberry cultivars of American and South African origin were evaluated in the tropical Zimbabwean lowveld in 1990 and 1991. The five cultivars were Tioga, Selekta, Tiobelle, Rorine and Rolissa. The differences in yield between cultivars were not statistically significant but the mean fruit weights of Selekta and Rorine were significantly higher than those of the other cultivars. Deflowered plants produced 80 runners per plant in 1990 and 90 in 1991 irrespective of spacing in the range of Zimbabwe where strawberries are traditionally grown.
