[An Economic Study For Producing and Marketing Cumin in Aleppo Governorate]

This study aimed to recognize the reality of the production and marketing of cumin in Aleppo province, during the growing season 2010-2011, through a simple random sample of farmers who growe it in Izaz, Ain Arab, th Bab. And to recognize the economic and social characteristics of farmers cumin, and to knowe the factors and causes that lead to the fluctuation of production and the difficulties of marketing. The results of the 2010-2011 growing season showed that, the average size of households is 7.2 per capita, and 61.9% of respondents are engaged in agricultural work, and the number of family members who fully depend on agriculture for their income were 65.8% of the total sample, the average number of years of work in agriculture among farmers sample is 7.5 years, and only 18.3% of the farmers follow crop rotation and 74.2% of the total farmers enjoy private ownership of land. Results also showed that the total overall costs of cumin crop reached 2061.382. sp / 1000m2, and net farm income 2051.16. sp / 1000m2, and - 102 - therefore the cost of 1 kg of cumin is 59.87. Q. The rate of cumin changeable capital turnover reached 247.60 days. The results approved that Syrian cumin has a revealed comparative advantage reaches to 7.6. Related to those results, Syrian cumin will get a prosperous future, if it has The requested interest. Examining the tract of marketing for cumin in the study areas in the province of Aleppo showed that the best course of marketing is: Farms - retailer - wholesaler - exporter. The total marketing cost of cumin crop over the conduct ofthrough the Wholesaler is : 15.2. sp / kg, while through the retailer 17.3 sp / kg. representing the costs of (screening, packaging and transportation, sterilization and packing bags in addition to losses and other costs). The absolute margin reached 85. sp / kg of the course of a wholesaler. 70. sp / kg through the course retailer. The relative margin was 39.53% over the course of a wholesaler, while it was 33.33%over the course of retailer. The marketing efficiency was 79.8% through the course of wholesaler and 77.6%. through the course of retailer .The study concluded the importance of agricultural alternating cumin with other crops to alleviate the stress of soil, and be aware of the need to analyze the soil and improve the methods used in the agricultural process, and to encourage expansion in the cultivation of cumin , which reduces the cost and benefit of the economy of - 103 - sizes and thereby increase the yield as well the need to improve the techniques used to reduce the production variances. The study also recommended facilitating the marketing of cumin to minimize the costs of marketing and support functions provided for this crop.
