The lipoprotein molecule
1978
Peeters, H. (Hubert)
Abstract: The current state of knowledge concerning the molecular structure, function and composition of the plasma lipoproteins is presented. Papers are organized within 4 research topics: isolation and composition of the lipoprotein molecule; structure; metabolism; and molecular variation and pathology. Analytical data on the biochemical separation of lipoproteins from serum are given; the variouscategories of lipoproteins are described. Structural features of lipoproteins, the physico-chemical properties oflipoprotein lipids, and techniques for reassembly of apoproteins and lipids are discussed. Inborn errors of metabolism and acquired disorders have been linked to specific lipoprotein patterns; these include lipoprotein deficiency, hypercholesterolemia, liver disease, atherosclerosis, hyperlipidemia, etc. Dietary effects on lipoprotein composition are also considered.
