Abstract: Alternatives to current approaches to health services emphasize providing new services, coordinating programs, communicating, and involving consumers in their own health maintainence. The goal is to promote health care systems and supportive community services rather than react to sickness. Strategies for program implementation are based on health education in 1) patient care; 2) the community; 3) schools and pre-schools; 4) health maintainence organizations; 5) community oral health programs; 6) job safety; and 7) community organization supports. Changes can be promoted through the use of media and simulation gaming in health education. Self-care evaluation, exercise, and nutrition awareness are emphasized. Legal rights of patients and suggestions for patient effectiveness are discussed. The need for transformation of health services is emphasized.
